I.What is a Dome SMD LEDs:
During the encapsulation process, a convex lens(hemispherical Dome)made of silicone or epoxy resin is molded directly onto the surface of each individual LED chip, each chip comes with its own integrated lens, rather than having resin poured over the entire module at a later stage.
Dome LED display: An LED screen constructed by soldering Dome SMD LEDs onto a PCB(this type still falls under the broad category of SMD surface mount screens and is distinct from COB or GOB technologies)

II.The features of Dome And Standard SMD LEDs:
(1)The features of Dome LEDs:
①Higher frontal brightness, the convex lens concentrates the light, resulting in greater brightness from the front at the same current level and excellent resistance to washout by outdoor sunlight.
②The viewing angle is relatively narrow, brightness drops significantly when viewed from the side, the horizontal viewing angle is average, ranging from 90° to 110°.
③The black background looks great, black screens appear truly black, and the contrast is high.
④The protective Dome encapsulation over at the LED chip provides extra protection for the gold wire, however, protecting the LED chip alone does not equate to making the entire unit waterproof.
⑤Black matrix modules + Dome structure, the background appears deeper black when the screen is off, resulting in superior contrast.
⑥The Dome encapsulation provides additional protection for the internal gold wires at the LED lamp level, however, this does not equate to waterproofing for the entire module assembly. The cabinet itself still requires proper waterproofing.
(2)The features of Standard SMD LEDs:
①Frontal brightness is relatively low, light is diffused and the viewing angle is wider approximately 110° to 140° horizontally with minimal brightness drop off when viewed from the side.
②The black background appears slightly grayish and the use of only flat encapsulation makes the gold wires more susceptible to moisture induced corrosion.
③Flat surfaces do not readily accumulate dust, they are lower in price and widely available in stock.
④Supports module level maintenance and offers high component interchangeability, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Flat top cabinets are the preferred choice for rental screens, as they facilitate wide side viewing angles.
III.How to choose for Dome and Standard SMD LEDs:
(1)For Dome LEDs:
①Designed primarily for outdoor use, the display features a unified Dome surface that offers superior UV, dust, and moisture resistance, along with higher brightness and enhanced visibility in strong light.
②Ideal for rental screens, frequently moved units and displays prone to impacts, the gel based protection for the LED chips ensures high resistance to mechanical damage.
③The client requires high contrast and good visibility in sunlight, the downsides are a higher price and a slightly narrower vertical viewing angle.

(2)For Standard SMD LEDs:
①Indoor screens are the preferred choice, they offer wider vertical viewing angles, minimal color shift when viewed from above or below, and a price advantage.
②Tight project budget, fixed indoor installation, no exposure to direct sunlight required.
③Offers excellent value for money, primarily used for indoor screens and indoor rental screens, as well as some low cost outdoor applications.
